Song Lyric Sunday 7/29/18 – Always in the Past

Song Lyric Sunday is once again upon us and our theme is “street.” Well, my default selection for this theme I have already used (namely “Boulevard of Broken Dreams by Green Day) so I had to think of something else.

So that’s when I stumbled across this mostly forgotten gem of a song. Though not about streets, one verse makes reference to streets paved with gold so it will have to do for this week.

With that, here is the song “Always in the Past,” a 1989 song off of the album The Seeds of Love – an album title which should give most of you a very important clue to the band behind this song.

Uhhh…ahem…yeah…them AGAIN! Sorry :-/

(Written by Roland Orzabal and Ian Stanley)

Money can’t change the way you feel
Smoke stains on your fingertips
Made for life is no big deal
When there’s something behind you that just doesn’t fit

And I can’t stop thinking
Always in the past
No, no, I just can’t stop thinking
Always in the past
It was always in

Smoke screens up at the break of day
Boy you must had a lonely night
And did your dreams reveal God’s plan?
Did heaven say you’re gonna make it alright

And I can’t stop thinking
Always in the past
No, no, I just can’t stop thinking
Always in the past
It was always in

Walk those streets
Paved with gold
You and I we are one and the same
We’ve got a whole lot of soul
Dance those steps
Of the ancient plague
You could sharpen knives on the famous lives
That were never saved

And I can’t stop thinking
Always in the past
No, no, I just can’t stop thinking
Always in the past
It was always in

And I can’t stop thinking
Always in the past
No, no, I just can’t stop thinking
Always in the past
It was always in

Sorry, best I could do this week. Maybe I’ll do better next week.

  1. You should never apologize for having a favorite band! I love that you always find songs that fit. I also love that I have pretty much liked all of their songs. Thanks so much for sharing! 🙂
