Song Lyric Sunday 5/13/18 – Ring of Fire

So Song Lyric Sunday is once again upon us, and our theme this week is “heart.” I thought of a number of ways I could have taken the theme, then I was reminded of a particular song with one instance of that lyric and figured I could take this in my own direction in more ways than one.

So the lyric that popped into mind was “the taste of love is sweet when hearts like ours meet.” Which, of course, is a reference to the song “Ring of Fire” written by June Carter, originally recorded by Anita Carter but made famous by the legendary Johnny Cash. OK, well that’s all fine and good, we know and love the song. I wouldn’t be surprised to see it duplicated.

So, since it went over so well (only half sarcastic here – I did have a few haters but mostly support) last time I did this, I’m doing it again – I’m covering my selection for this theme. I do take a little bit of artistic liberty so my lyrics might not match the posted or official lyrics perfectly, but nonetheless, please be nice. It’s frightening enough to make oneself vulnerable like this. Also, please excuse the audio quality – I don’t have any professional recording equipment and had to use my laptop’s built-in mic; and also excuse any occasional sniffling and/or throat clearing – allergies kicking my ass lately.

Well, here goes nothing…

Love is a burning thing
And it makes a fiery ring.
Bound by wild desire
I fell into a ring of fire.

|: I fell into a burning ring of fire,
I went down, down, down and the flames went higher
And it burns, burns, burns,
The ring of fire, the ring of fire. : |

The taste of love is sweet
When hearts like ours meet.
I fell for you like a child,
Oh, but the fire went wild.

I fell into a burning ring of fire,
I went down, down, down and the flames went higher
And it burns, burns, burns,
The ring of fire, the ring of fire.

I fell into a burning ring of fire,
I went down, down, down and the flames went higher
And it burns, burns, burns,
The ring of fire, the ring of fire.

And it burns, burns, burns,
The ring of fire, the ring of fire,
The ring of fire, the ring of fire.

Well, hope I didn’t make your ears bleed (though I’m sure I made a few of yours!) but there you go. Please either be kind or just move along. I know I’m not the greatest. You don’t have to tell me that, LOL!!!

  1. Excellent pick and excellent job covering it! πŸ˜πŸ‘πŸΌπŸ‘πŸΌπŸ‘πŸΌ. One of my favorites, and you did it righteous justice, my brother 😍 Omg you sound a whole lot like him! (The only bumper sticker my father has ever had on any of his vehicles is one on his truck that simply says “god bless Johnny Cash” lol. My father even personally got to hand a bag of our family’s donuts to Johnny himself in the 60s when Johnny was playing a fairground venue where the donuts were sold. So yeah, Mr Cash is huge in our household). And you did a totally stellar job with this!! My hat tips heartily to you πŸ˜πŸ’œπŸ’œ

    • Thanks. As far as reminding one of Johnny Cash, I guess that’s in the ear of the beholder – I’ve met people who feel one way or another about him. Oh well, at least I’m not as terrible as I sometimes fear I am.

I used to have a lot more confidence and I played out and about all the time (open mics and such), then one time about 5 years ago the crowd wasn’t into me and I got booed off the stage. I haven’t played out and about since. It’s tough. Maybe doing something like this will help me regain my confidence.

    • Thanks – as admitted, this was almost to test a theory for me as well. Last time I performed at an open mic I got booed off stage. That was several years ago. All that time I wondered who/what was the problem – is it me or is it the crowd? Maybe I’m not that bad after all.
