Beer Review: Pinsetter

Pinsetter is an Amber Lager hailing from Real Ale Brewing Company in Blanco, Texas. It weighs in 5.4% ABV, 25 IBU and Real Ale is kind enough to supply the original gravity – 12.5 Degrees Plato (1.050 specific gravity).

Pours a chestnut brown color with streaks of red and orange. A single finger of cream-colored head recedes quickly to a thin ring. Aromas of piney hops, caramel and yeast greet the nose. The palate is greeted by notes of toasted bread and caramel malt which quickly gives way to an ample pine and citrus hope bite. Light, crisp and refreshing body with high carbonation – almost a soda-like mouthfeel. Goes down smooth and in large gulps so you can kill several and not feel weighed down.

Though these types of beers tend not to rate as highly as the heavier, more flavorful ones, sometimes a beer of this sort is the one you want more than anything, and especially in the summer heat. This would be a great cookout or fishing beer where you’re going to kill several. Some suggested cigar pairings include the Primos Classic in Natural or Sumatran, Oliva Serie G Natural and the Padron x000 series in Natural.

Rating: 3.5/5.
