Song Lyric Sunday 1/8/17 – California Dreamin’

Sorry I missed last week’s Song Lyric Sunday. I didn’t feel as though I had any good ideas to contribute to the theme so I just sat that one out. Back on track this week though!

So this week’s Song Lyric Sunday theme is a song about the cold. Well naturally most of the songs about cold weather are seemingly related to the holidays, but the holidays are over so it’s time for something different. So this week I’m featuring my favorite song by The Mamas and the Papas – the timeless tale “California Dreamin’.”

I’ve always liked folk music in all their forms and this group is no exception. My own playing style can best be described as folksy and any song I get ahold of personally and make my own takes on that kind of a sound. I don’t know why but it just happens that way.

At any rate, I absolutely love this song and how appropriate. I live in Texas where it rarely gets just bone chilling cold but it sure did this past week – our high Friday was only like 22 degrees and we stayed in the teens most of the day (F that is).

Anyway, enough jibber-jabber, let’s get on with the song.

All the leaves are brown and the sky is gray.
I’ve been for a walk on a winter’s day.
I’d be safe and warm if I was in L.A.;
California dreamin’ on such a winter’s day.

Stopped in to a church I passed along the way.
Well I got down on my knees and I pretend to pray.
You know the preacher liked the cold;
He knows I’m gonna stay.
California dreamin’ on such a winter’s day.

All the leaves are brown and the sky is gray.
I’ve been for a walk on a winter’s day.
If I didn’t tell her I could leave today;
California dreamin’ on such a winter’s day.
California dreamin’ on such a winter’s day.
California dreamin’ on such a winter’s day.
