Beer Review: Dogfish Head Punkin ALe

I should say before I get into this review that I am a big Dogfish Head fan. I always love how they push the envelope with whatever they get their hands on. They’re always unique and tasty brews.

Well, with that here we have Punkin Ale: A Pumpkin Ale amped up a little bit – 7% ABV, 28 IBU and brewed with actual pumpkin flesh, brown sugar and spices. Though an endearing term, Punkin is hardly but endearing in assault of the palate! Let’s get right down to it.

Pours, well, a pumpkin orange color with a light, frothy head that dissipates quickly. Predominant spicy aroma consisting of the classic cinammon and nutmeg and a slightly peppery quality. Pumpkin is there as is brown sugar. The flavor profile is a deliciously balanced sweet and spicy flavor of malt, pumpkin, brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg. Delicate tea-like hop finish. Light and effervescent in the mouth and drinks easily enough. Perhaps one of my favorite pumpkin ales. Rating: 4.25/5.
